Celebrating and Closing Out Danielle's Time at Keystone UCC

Help us celebrate our 2018-19 JLP intern Danielle Walker during worship on July 14! Danielle has worked at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) and has been a vital part of the Keystone community during her internship year. She's helped keep us informed about changes in immigration policies and actions for solidarity, preached, and kept the Keystone sermons archive up to date (and so much more!). Join us as we close out her time with us with love and support!

Solidarity in Renton

Rev. Lauren Cannon and Seattle-area faith leaders and community members, including folks from Wayside UCC in Federal Way pictured with Lauren in the photo above, showed their support June 21 at a vigil for United Christian Church in Renton, after the church's LGBTQ+ Pride display was vandalized.

Take Action: Tell HUD to Keep Families Together!

On May 10, 2019 the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) proposed a rule that would significantly change the agency's eligibility requirements for federal housing assistance based on immigration status.  If finalized, the proposed rule will effectively:
  • Evict 25,000 immigrant families from their homes, including over 55,000 children who are US citizens or green card holders and
  • Jeopardize the housing subsidies of millions of US citizens and elderly immigrants who cannot provide proof of citizenship or immigration status
The proposed rule would prohibit "mixed-status" families from living in public housing and Section 8 units.  Mixed-status families are families that include household members who are both eligible and ineligible for housing assistance based on their immigration status. The rule would also impose new documentation requirements for US citizens and immigrants who are 62 years old or older.

Click here to submit comments to HUD or click the button below to explain why this rule would have a catastrophic impact on you, your family, friends, neighbors, tenants and clients.  As you can see the deadline is fast approaching - July 9th.  The more people who send their comments on behalf of someone they know will help to stomp out this ridiculous and unfair rule!

Forty-five years after it revolutionized abortion law in America, the landmark 1973 US Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade is once again at a crossroads. In their timely new documentary “Reversing Roe,” filmmakers Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg present a deeply illuminating look of the state of abortion and women’s rights in America. The film offers candid and riveting interviews with key figures from both sides of the divide, among them doctors Colleen McNicholas and Curtis Boyd; feminist icon Gloria Steinem; Operation Rescue president Troy Newman; and National Right to Life president Carol Tobias.
Intense and unflinching in its commitment to telling the whole story, “Reversing Roe” provides a gripping look at what’s happening on the ground in 2018. Drawing from a wealth of historical footage, it charts the period leading up to the Roe decision—and documents the opposition that has followed ever since.
Regardless of where you stand on the issue of abortion, “Reversing Roe” is essential viewing to understand how the country got here—and where it may be going.
