Winter Faith Formation/Upcoming Discussion Group:
Forward Together
 Keystone Friends,
Come out to study and be together in these weeks of Lent. Wednesday February 28, we began our four-week faith formation series "Forward Together" at Keystone United Church of Christ. This series is team-taught by Rev. Lauren Cannon, Rev. Rich Gamble, Pastor Yuki Schwartz, and Justice Leadership Program intern Hunter Paulson-Smith.
4 Wednesdays, 6:30 - 8:00pm
Feb. 28, Mar. 7, Mar. 14, Mar. 21.
Series held in Battson Hall,which will be open each Wednesday at 6 pm, with tea and soups available so that you can warm up. Then, 6-6:30 pm, the Fireside Room offers you a place to browse the short book chapters.
Each evening includes:

RECAP: February 28 -our Bible study portion bounced off the scripture from worship February 25, and Rev. Rich's discipleship theme. We were invited to think about our own stories of moral call, as we studied Mark 8:31-36.
8:31 Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
8:32 He said all this quite openly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
8:33 But turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things."
8:34 He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
8:35 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.
8:36 For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?

A Moral Message for the Nation

In the spring of 2013, seventeen people gathered at the North Carolina state capitol to protest extreme legislation passed by the General Assembly. Thousands joined the “Moral Mondays” rallies, making this sustained moral protest one of the largest acts of civil disobedience in U.S. history. Rev. Dr. William Barber II, a pastor and president of the North Carolina Conference of the NAACP and an architect of the Forward Together Moral Movement, tells the story of a new fusion civil rights movement, a “big tent,” in which black and white, gay and straight, rich and poor, old and young, Republicans and Democrats are all welcome.

THE NORTHWEST PILGRIMAGE PROJECTDive into the issues of inequity and homelessness on a 3-day journey through Seattle
The Justice Leadership Northwest Pilgrimage Project is a three-day journey to explore the roots and contributing factors to the crisis of homelessness in Seattle. We will hear from experts and visit various relevant sites and organizations. Each of the three days will be full of information and experiences that will bring about an understanding of the causes and realities of homelessness. Participants will end the pilgrimage with a greater understanding of homelessness and the ways social justice leaders have worked to bring about its end. It is our hope that participants will utilize the information and experiences gained to participate in the ongoing work of ending homelessness.

Justice Leadership Programs Northwest is now accepting applications from change-makers of all ages who are looking to deepen their faith while doing the work of justice. The Justice Leadership Program, affiliate of the national Young Adult Service Communities Network, seeks motivated young people ages 21-35 for an 11-month internship beginning in September 2018. Interns learn community organizing and political advocacy working full time at a Seattle-based nonprofit, while living in intentional community and serving a local congregation. Pastor Rich is available Tuesday to Thursday mornings and Friday evenings, and holds additional office times on Saturdays and Sundays. (Monday is Sabbath.)
