TONIGHT in RENTON
Support Vigil For UCC of Renton
Join Pastor Lauren TONIGHT, June 21 at 6:30pm, at United Christian Church in Renton, 15509 116th Ave SE, Renton, WA 98058 to bring support to one of our sister UCC churches that's suffered vandalism this week, to a display they put up for Pride month. It was a line of doors in the church yard sharing "God's Doors are Open to All". We know and love the pastor and members who were trying a new thing for their neighborhood. All are welcome - we will briefly gather with them and neighbors who are not letting this fill them with fear.

HUGE VICTORY -- FIGHT'S NOT OVER!!
US House approves anti-Pebble amendment; would protect Bristol Bay
This week saw a huge victory for wild salmon and Alaska, as the U.S. House of Representatives passed amendment 90, the “Huffman Amendment,” to the Energy and Water Appropriations Act. The Huffman Amendment would prevent the Army Corps from finalizing the permits for the proposed Pebble Mine in the federal fiscal year 2020.This is a great step in the right direction, and the House of Representatives is clearly listening to the thousands of us who took the time to contact them last week. So thank you! There are 10 days left to officially comment on the Army Corp’s fatally flawed DEIS for Pebble, so we need to make sure that as many of us as possible continue to speak up on Pebble Mine. The amendment is attached to a spending bill which has now cleared the House, but the Senate usually writes its own version of the bill, and the anti-Pebble amendment is unlikely to be brought up in the Republican-controlled Senate.Sign the online letter hereThanks so much to Keystone Member, Connie Voget for bringing this to our attention, and for enabling us to speak up!

Film: UNLOCKING THE CAGE (91 minutes; Chris Hegedus and DA Pennebaker, 2016) Friday, July 5; Doors open at 6:30pm; Movie starts at 7:00pm @ Keystone UCC (downstairs in Battson Hall)
“Unlocking the Cage” follows animal rights lawyer Steven Wise as he tries to break down the legal wall that separates animals from humans. Arguing that cognitively complex animals such as chimpanzees, whales, dolphins and elephants deserve to be treated as sentient, self-aware and autonomous beings, Steve and his legal team are making history by fighting to transform a chimpanzee from a “thing” with no rights to a “person” with limited legal protections. Currently he is advocating for elephants’ rights. If you would like to download and post the flyer for the event, click here: Flyer for Unlocking Special Guests: Steven Wise, founder and president of the Nonhuman Rights Project, which has a mission to secure fundamental rights for nonhuman animals through litigation, legislation and education. ** All events are Open to the Public. Admission is by Donation **
