KEYSTONE CONGREGATIONAL MEETING RECAP: Thanks to everyone who joined us last Sunday for our annual congregational meeting! If you missed it, here's what we took care of:
- We unanimously approved our 2019-2020 Budget.
- We unanimously approved that the replacement roof for our sanctuary would be a metal one (as opposed to a composite one).
- We unanimously approved the procurement of bids for solar panels, and that the formation of a building fund would be explored.
- We unanimously approved our slate of 2019-2020 Keystone officers:
- John Preston, Moderator
- Rich Voget, Treasurer
- Lisa Smith, Secretary
Families: Pick up Children's Activity pages & crayons on the welcome table every week as you come in to worship (based on the scripture of the day.) There are two types: younger children & older children. Children of any age are always part of worship & welcome! Children's Ministry with Anita – program every Sunday 10:00am- 12pm. Native and Non-Native Fishers Battle Big Money to Protect Bristol Bay
From Keystone Member, Connie Voget:On April 25, I attended a Town Hall at the University of Washington to learn more about an issue I have been following for many years - a proposal to build a mine that scientists say presents an unacceptable risk to Bristol Bay, Alaska (please see overview, below). Native and non-Native fisher folk are up against big money and have to rely on people-power to defend their livelihoods, their values and the Bristol Bay ecosystem that they cherish and whose bounty serves not only their community, but the world. In the last couple Keystone newsletters, we've shared the opportunity to signed a prepared letter for submission to the Army Corps of Engineers. The deadline has been extended, so if you still haven't signed or submitted a letter, there's still time! Sign the online letter here

Welcome New Keystone Members
On May 26, the Keystone community shared time in worship to welcome new members into the full life and ministry of our church! We promised to support & work alongside them, to grieve & celebrate with them, and to share our lives & God's work. Here is an excerpt of a part of our commitment in worship together, as Rich V., Yuki, Dick & Pat Becker joined:
Keystone Church is a community founded on the love of Gd and dedicated to the work of sharing that love through acts of compassion and justice. We are called to seek out those who are ignored, abused, exploited, vulnerable and suffering, to listen to their stories, to share their suffering, to learn from their wisdom, to provide comfort, and to work to change the conditions that threaten them or that have brought them harm. We are called to the work of supporting this community as a reflection of God’s love and a center for God’s work on earth. This community is dedicated to serve all of creation, to protect this planet’s vulnerable air, water, soil and life, to strive to preserve and enhance the health of this planet for the enjoyment of generations yet unborn."
And our new members chose that day to proclaim their support of the life and mission of this community by officially joining Keystone United Church of Christ!

How capitalism is turning the internet against democracy. “Digital Disconnect” trains its sights on the relationship between the internet and democracy in the age of fake news, filter bubbles, and Facebook security breaches. Renowned media scholar Robert McChesney traces how the democratizing potential of the internet has been radically compromised by the logic of capitalism and the unaccountable power of a handful of telecom and tech monopolies. Along the way, McChesney examines the ongoing attack on net neutrality by telecom monopolies like Comcast and Verizon; explores how internet giants like Facebook and Google have amassed huge profits by surreptitiously collecting personal data and selling it to advertisers; and shows how these companies have routinely colluded with the national security state to advance covert mass surveillance programs. Even more urgently, the film details how the rise of social media as a leading information source is working to isolate people into ideological filter bubbles and elevate fake news at the expense of real journalism. While most debates about the internet continue to focus on issues like the personal impact of internet addiction or the questionable data-mining practices of individual companies like Facebook, “Digital Disconnect” digs deeper to show how capitalism itself is turning the internet against democracy.

Reach us at your Keystone church office: (206) 632-6021. This phone is also checked remotely since all staff and interns serve part-time.
Pastor Rich is available Tuesday to Thursday mornings and Friday evenings, and holds additional office times on Saturdays and Sundays. (Monday is Sabbath.) Not all of these times will Rich be in the church office. If you want to see him, it is best to make an appointment. Email him at rich.gamble@keystoneseattle.org
