Hunter and Barb will also be taking pictures of new community members on Sundays after church.

Can you bring some finger foods to the July 21 Concert!

Hello Keystone Folk,

I am hoping that you are planning to attend the concert this Saturday to raise money for the Justice Leadership Program. It should be a very good event. The concert with folk singers Charlie King and Rebel Voices begins at 7:30 pm and we are asking for $20 donation but no one will be turned away.

We are asking people to RSVP to keystonejustice@gmail.com but that is not a requirement, it just helps us have an idea of how many people to expect.

I think it would be a good opportunity for us to show some Keystone hospitality to those who attend the event. It could also be a good time for members of the broader community to meet some of the interns. So if any of you can make or bring some finger food snacks for Saturday night that would be wonderful.

The work continues to reunite thousands of immigrant families torn apart by our government, and we raise up those in our midst who are doing the good work. In the Wednesday, July 19 issue of The Seattle Times, "Seattle-area residents step up to help separated immigrant families" told about local people who are supporting asylum seekers through the Church Council of Greater Seattle, and other organizations. Plymouth UCC member Betsy Hale was also highlighted for housing a recently-released asylum seeker.

The online article also offers a list of agencies offering help to asylum-seekers:

• Northwest Immigrant Rights Project:
Accepting donations to support direct legal services and pay bonds, volunteer interpreters

nwirp.org

• AIDNW (Tacoma):
Accepting supplies on wish list, volunteers, funds to purchase phone cards for people in detention

aidnw.org

• Immigrant Resources & Immediate Support (Skagit, Whatcom, Snohomish counties):
Accepting money to support Yolany Padilla and her son with food, clothing, housing and counseling

irisnw.com

• Church Council of Greater Seattle:
Coordinating volunteers to translate, accompany, house or transport asylum-seekers

thechurchcouncil.org

• Washington Immigrant Defense Network:
Accepting volunteers, funds to provide legal services for difficult cases in Washington

SPEAK YOUR TRUTH
Open Mic & Clothing Swap
Held Saturday, July 14

Thanks to all who gathered at Keystone on July 14 for the “Speak Your Truth” open mic and clothing swap! The night was a great success and BIG THANKS to Hunter and Bri for their hard work. The night was rich with community and sharing of stories.

Vigil for Safe Jobs and Safe Communities

Swing by to show support to workers, if you can.  Pastor Lauren will be one of the speakers!

Northeast Seattle neighborhoods are undergoing rapid turnover and development, without sufficient and meaningful input from local communities and advocates. Seattle Workers for Justice is supporting local neighbors and small business concerns about public involvement processes and safety concerns like crosswalks, and of workers on several new developments who have experienced bullying on the job, and have worked on projects without adequate training, safety equipment, or safety training.

The majority of the workers in the industry are vulnerable to employer bullying and threats, including outright racist and anti-immigrant discrimination.

We need your support to make sure our message gets through!
Join us for a vigil and community education!

Date: Thursday, July 26
Time: Meet at 10:00am
Location: Corner of NE 65th Ave and 15th Ave NE; Southeast of Roosevelt High School

For more information, contact D Pei Wu, Seattle Workers for Justice, datjwj@gmail.com

** NOW RECRUITING INTERNS FOR 2018/19 **

Justice Leadership Programs Northwest is now accepting applications from change-makers of all ages who are looking to deepen their faith while doing the work of justice.

The Justice Leadership Program, affiliate of the national Young Adult Service Communities Network, seeks motivated young people ages 21-35 for an 11-month internship beginning in September 2018. Interns learn community organizing and political advocacy working full time at a Seattle-based nonprofit, while living in intentional community and serving a local congregation. Direct inquiries to justiceleadership@gmail.com, and apply online today. Priority deadline is February 15 -- please spread the word!

** NOTE: JLP Alums go on to do great things! We lift up aluma Briana Brannan, who is now serving as Immigrant and Refugee Accompaniment Organizer, at the Church Council of Greater Seattle **

ALSO: Justice Leadership Jubilee is filling its next cohort of volunteers, who serve part-time for six to nine months at a local organization working for structural change toward social justice.. Jubilee is a program for individuals seeking a deeper analysis of systemic injustice, and a desire to strengthen the connection between faith and justice in a cohort of their peers. Previous year's organizational partners included Puget Sound Sage, 350 Seattle, and the Church Council of Greater Seattle. Reply to this message with any questions; find our application online here.

JLPNW is based at Keystone Congregational UCC in Seattle, and grateful for the support of our partner congregations -- Northshore UCC, Plymouth Congregational UCC, Prospect UCC, All Pilgrims Church, University Congregational UCC, as well as the  PNW Conference.
Please forward widely! Help us spread the word about these exciting opportunities to Be the Church and build a robust, faith-based movement for justice in the Northwest.

In joyful resistance,
Claire
