It should be a very good event. The concert with folk singers Charlie King and Rebel Voices begins at 7:30 pm and we are asking for $20 donation but no one will be turned away. We are asking people to RSVP to keystonejustice@gmail.com but that is not a requirement, it just helps us have an idea of how many people to expect. I think it would be a good opportunity for us to show some Keystone hospitality to those who attend the event. In the Wednesday, July 19 issue of The Seattle Times, "Seattle-area residents step up to help separated immigrant families" told about local people who are supporting asylum seekers through the Church Council of Greater Seattle, and other organizations. Plymouth UCC member Betsy Hale was also highlighted for housing a recently-released asylum seeker. Northeast Seattle neighborhoods are undergoing rapid turnover and development, without sufficient and meaningful input from local communities and advocates. Seattle Workers for Justice is supporting local neighbors and small business concerns about public involvement processes and safety concerns like crosswalks, and of workers on several new developments who have experienced bullying on the job, and have worked on projects without adequate training, safety equipment, or safety training. The majority of the workers in the industry are vulnerable to employer bullying and threats, including outright racist and anti-immigrant discrimination. Our hope is to honor diversity and share stories from the many walks of life we come from. Rich Gamble's letter to the Keystone Congregation   Paisley report back from   UCC Western Regional Youth Event (Paisley in back row with raised hand) June 25-29, Keystone member Paisley Smith traveled to Honolulu, Hawai’i to participate in the UCC Western Regional Youth Event (WRYE), hosted by the Hawaiian UCC Conference. With about 400 other youth and adults from the western region states of the US, Paisley engaged in worship, service projects and heard from inspirational speakers. Here is a report back from Paisley: Last Week I attended WRYE (western regional youth event), a social justice advocacy camp for teenagers put on by the UCC. This year it was in Hawai’i, so we learned a lot about Polynesian culture, by doing service projects with Hawai'ian natives and going to the Polynesian cultural center. We also attended workshops to teach us about spreading justice through song, faith, leadership and more. I attended the Song Making and Mural Making workshops (pictured here).  I left hoping to continue to spread the social justice advocacy knowledge that I learned while on the trip, specifically, on indigenous people's right. There, I learned how the native Hawai'ians were treated poorly by the white people, but their culture is alive and well and must be honored and celebrated.
