Update on Nicklesville Community, and Joys, Concerns, and Prayers

Nickelsville Community Reprieve

If you read Thursday's (Dec. 5) newsletter, you saw that Keystone UCC members were supposed to have a congregational conversation Sunday (Dec. 8) to discuss whether Keystone UCC would be able to provide sanctuary to the Nickelsville Community if Nickelsville residents were evicted from their Tiny House neighborhood in Wallingford.

Just a few minutes after that newsletter went out, Rev. Rich heard from Scott Morrow, a community organizer with Nickelsville, that the Seattle deputy mayor had called the community and let them know that they could stay in their homes until at least March 2020. This is great news for Nickelsville!

This means that we will not need to have a community discussion on Sunday to decide whether to offer our sanctuary as temporary habitation for Nickelsville residents.

However ... we can still support Nickelsville in a lot of different ways. On Sunday night, the Nickelsville Community residents and their supporters will be celebrating this reprieve, along with Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, with dinner and a program. You can join the celebration at 5 p.m. at the Nickelsville Northlake Tiny House village, 3814 4th Avenue NE, Seattle. Please bring food to share if you're able.

Also, you can help stop winter evictions for all Seattle residents by attending the Seattle City Council meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, and raising your voice to support emergency legislation to ban winter evictions.

If you have any questions or want to talk about other ways Keystone UCC can support Nickelsville throughout the winter, Revs. Lauren and Yuki will be available for conversations on Sunday.

Congratulations to Dick & Pat Becker & family!  Welcome great grand daughter Harley Rain Sharpe, born November 24!!  Parents Jade Castino & Jason Sharpe & all are doing well!

"We hold you in our love.."  We continue to pray with Nell Townley & family as they search for the best community for Nell's next home and care, when it comes time to transition from Northaven.  May all of us keep bringing the Keystone love, via a call to say hello, writing a card, or stopping by for a brief visit:

Prayers continue to bring grace to Mary and Stan Jeppesen, as Stan is recovering so well from suffering a stroke in November.
