** NOW RECRUITING INTERNS FOR 2018/19 **

Justice Leadership Programs Northwest is now accepting applications from change-makers of all ages who are looking to deepen their faith while doing the work of justice.

The Justice Leadership Program, affiliate of the national Young Adult Service Communities Network, seeks motivated young people ages 21-35 for an 11-month internship beginning in September 2018. Interns learn community organizing and political advocacy working full time at a Seattle-based nonprofit, while living in intentional community and serving a local congregation. Direct inquiries to justiceleadership@gmail.com, and apply online today. Priority deadline is February 15 -- please spread the word!

Justice Leadership Jubilee is filling its next cohort of volunteers, who serve part-time for six to nine months at a local organization working for structural change toward social justice.. Jubilee is a program for individuals seeking a deeper analysis of systemic injustice, and a desire to strengthen the connection between faith and justice in a cohort of their peers. Previous year's organizational partners included Puget Sound Sage, 350 Seattle, and the Church Council of Greater Seattle. Reply to this message with any questions; find our application online here.

JLPNW is based at Keystone Congregational UCC in Seattle, and grateful for the support of our partner congregations -- Northshore UCC, Plymouth Congregational UCC, Prospect UCC, All Pilgrims Church, University Congregational UCC, as well as the  PNW Conference.
Please forward widely! Help us spread the word about these exciting opportunities to Be the Church and build a robust, faith-based movement for justice in the Northwest.

In joyful resistance,
Claire

Film: A BOLD PEACE: COSTA RICA'S PATH OF DEMILITARIZATION

(89 minutes; Matthew Eddy and Michael Dreiling, 2016)
Friday, Jan. 5; Doors open at 6:30pm; Movie starts at 7:00pm

@ Keystone UCC (downstairs in Battson Hall)

Almost 70 years ago Costa Rica abolished its army and committed itself to fostering a peaceful society. “A Bold Peace” juxtaposes the national policy of demilitarization with their investment in education, health, and the environment. It has been reaping the benefits ever since.

“This film is very timely. . . There’s a lot of confusion in our world right now, and `A Bold Peace’ offers a unique perspective. The film shows that there is another way. I think it will be eye opening for people who think that we need to bolster the military in order to stand our ground, whereas Costa Rica has shown that the military is not always the answer.” – Erika Floriani, Director of Oldcastle Theatre Company in The Bennington Banner (Vermont), May 3, 2017.

Sponsors: This film was funded by the Peace Research Grant Program of the International Peace Research Association Foundation, and grants from the Jubitz Family Foundation and the Jane Addams Peace Association, among many other contributors.

** All events are Open to the Public. Admission is by Donation **

We help communities organize, educate, advocate & build community around social justice documentary film and conversation.
