Fall Faith Formation Opportunity:
"Greatest Prayer" Book Discussion

John Dominic Crossan begins his book naming The Lord's Prayer as both the GREATEST prayer and the STRANGEST prayer (used by Christians everywhere, across a broad spectrum of theological beliefs.)  On October 6, we began to explore Crossan's claim that it is "a radical manifesto and a hymn of hope for all humanity in language addressed to all the earth."  We began with sharing stories about our experiences and memories of  praying The Lord's Prayer.  We started to examine Crossan's call to 'rediscover the revolutionary message' of this prayer, used by Christians of every type, but often in rote ways.

You are invited to join with other Keystone folks for six weeks to sharpen and strengthen our study of distributive justice and consider the depth of meanings of the prayer we share each week in our Keystone worship.

Prayer Request for Our Community

Our prayers are with Sandie Schumacher as she walks with her sister Sally in Portland who has a rather sudden diagnosis of esophageal cancer and whose liver is now failing.  Sandie celebrates the ways that Sally is beloved & surrounded by family, including those traveling in from South Dakota, Nebraska, and Germany.

Prayers welcome as Kaaren Mills continues to practice great patience in the placement process for a new care giver.  We rejoice for the presence of Kaaren's long time friend Melba, formerly of Seattle, who worshipped with us October 4, and is currently staying in town with Kaaren.

On October 9, we remember the birthday of our departed and celebrated sister in Christ, Gloria Bollens, member of Keystone UCC who died last year, and is close in our hearts, on the day of her birth.

Wednesday, Oct. 14:
The People's Climate Movement -
National Day of Action

While Congress is in recess and just 6 weeks before the Paris Climate Talks in December, people throughout the country will participate in a day of creative active as we demand urgent action here in the U.S.

JOIN US!!

Last year, on September 21, over 400,000 people took the streets of New York City to march and demand the world's leaders for climate action. The march was the largest climate march in history and the movement spread across the world. Our current JLP Intern, Alyssa Nedrow was there too! See pictures she took that day HERE.

Here in Seattle, Keystone joined thousands of others, as we marched downtown, in solidarity with the march in New York.

LET'S DO IT AGAIN!!

This year, The People's Climate Movement announced that on Wednesday, Oct.14, climate advocates across the country will participate in a National Day of Action. Here in Seattle, the People's Climate Movement National Day of Action will be led by One America. The day is still being organized, but SAVE THE DATE to join the movement with fellow Keystone advocates, to demand action for a brighter and more sustainable future.

[Planning meetings, Sunday Oct. 11, during Coffee Hour
We'll meet at Seattle City Hall in the NW corner, come when you can 5-5:30 pm]

Naomi Klein, award winning journalist and author, has been confirmed to speak at Seattle's National Day of Action!

As many of you know, criminal justice and prison reform have become new passions of mine in recent months. I’ve had several opportunities to learn and hear from those impacted by this broken system. There is a great opportunity to learn and discuss the powerful book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, at University Congregational UCC. We will be focusing on Chapter 2 and would love for you to join us.

If any of these two events interest you or if you know of others who might be interested, feel free to contact me by email at amber.dickson@childrensalliance.org, or phone 253-355-0262. See you Sunday!

Note from Alyssa, our Keystone JLP Intern working with FAN:
During the forum we will gather with our faith communities to partake in conversations and mobilization around our regressive tax structure. State Rep. Reuven Carlyle will be our speaker and have a local religious leaders panel to respond, as well as a time for Q/A and a time to mobilize against Int.1366 (Eyman Initiative).
